Week 5 – from Monday 26 August

Moving across to the south side

The statue of Our Lady stands outside the Lady Chapel. Nearby is the votive candle stand where you may light a candle and spend some quiet time in prayer.

The Lady Chapel is entered through an elaborately carved oak screen,
with two angels guarding: one carrying a sword and the other a censer. The chapel is used when fewer people are expected to attend a service.

Inside, on the south wall, are 16th century brasses. The inscriptions can be read on nearby panels.

The windows describe the role of Mary in the life of Christ and our salvation.

They depict [in order of event],

Sanctuary left centre – the Annunciation, when the angel Gabriel visits Mary

Sanctuary right centre – Mary visits her cousin Elizabeth
