Sunday 12 May – Bell Sunday
‘Bell Sunday is an annual opportunity to celebrate the contribution of bell ringers to the life of the church, and to acknowledge the part that bells play in worship and community life all the year round.
Bell Sunday is always kept on a Sunday close to St Dunstan’s feast day, who is known as the patron saint of bell ringers due to his experimentation in the early forging of bells in the 900s and his encouragement of the use of bells in parish churches. Today, the day is designed to raise awareness of bell ringing, to emphasise the importance of the sound of bells in our communities and how it can help bring church and community together, and to strengthen relationships between church leaders and bell ringers.’ Mark Elvers

We pray for bell ringers everywhere but especially for our band at St George’s:
Grant, O Lord, we pray, that those who are appointed to ring the bells of
this house of prayer may do it worthily and to your glory; and that those
who shall be called by the ringing of these bells to worship you may enter
into your gates with thanksgiving and into your courts with praise;
through Jesus Christ our Lord.
We call, from Tower and Steeple
Upon the Day of days,
All faithful Christian people
To worship, prayer, and praise.
We ring with joyous gladness
When man and wife are blessed;
We peal in muffled sadness
For loved ones laid to rest.
