Coronation Reflection – Wednesday 3 May 2023

The spirit of the Lord God is upon me,
because the Lord has anointed me;
he has sent me to bring good news to the oppressed,
to bind up the broken-hearted,
to proclaim liberty to the captives,
and release to the prisoners;
to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favour.     Isaiah 61. 1 – 2

At the heart of the coronation is the sacrament of anointing with oil.
This anointing is an outward sign of an inward grace.
It sets a person apart as holy
and as a servant of God
with a particular vocation, in this case as a king.

As your servant Charles is consecrated
may your Holy Spirit fill him with his presence
that he may be given with wisdom to lead in a way that is pleasing to you;
through Jesus Christ our Lord.  Amen.
