Go Green(er) for Lent – Week 3:

Go Green(er) for Lent

Introduction
As members of Eco Church St George’s has made a commitment to long term action on the environment. How can we become better at caring for creation and improving our lives and the lives of others through healthy, eco-friendly and sustainable living?

At present St George’s is working to implement good standards in sustainability where we are able.

The Lenten 40-day period before Easter gives us the opportunity to reflect on the practice of fasting and commit to giving up something that brings a real benefit to nature and helps address climate change. Each week in Lent some suggestions will be offered: you could help the environment. Take time to pray, reflect and consider these options. Perhaps you could choose just one or two to start with and add something new each week.

Lord God, give us the wisdom to care for our planet and for each other.
Help us to think, pray and act now for the good of future generations and all creation.

Become better informed. There are a variety of articles here:

Go plastic free. Even if you can’t become totally plastic-free, make it your goal to at least reduce your use of plastic.

Switch off from digital. Explore technology-free times or areas of the house,
switch to ‘airplane mode’ for the first hour in the morning and the last hour at night,
try ‘switch off Sundays’, reach for your Bible instead of your device(s).
Look out of your window and watch and listen for signs of life.

Lord of the Sabbath, it is hard for us to take a break from technology
and harder still to stop relying on devices and equipment.
Help us to understand that Sabbath rest heals and renews us.
