Remembrance
Introduction
Over the next few weeks as we go through the autumn a poem will be included with the weekly readings.
Some of the poems will be familiar and others may be new to you.
They will reflect thoughts and ideas associated with this time of year.
Through the Season of Remembering we acknowledge that we and our communities have been affected by loss, illness and death. We recognise those who have influenced our lives for good and we give thanks for God’s steadfast love.
The Shaker song Simple Gifts Joseph Brackett Jr. 1797 – 1882
‘Tis the gift to be simple, ’tis the gift to be free,
‘Tis the gift to come down where I ought to be;
And when we find ourselves in the place just right,
‘Twill be in the valley of love and delight.
When true simplicity is gained,
To bow and to bend we shan’t be ashamed;
to turn, turn, will be my delight.
Till by turning, turning we come round right.
