Holocaust Memorial Day – Thursday 27 January 2022

One Day is the theme for Holocaust Memorial Day 2022.

Holocaust Memorial Day was created on 27 January 2000, when representatives from 46 governments around the world met in Stockholm to discuss Holocaust education, remembrance and research.

It is a day to call to mind the millions of people murdered in the Holocaust and in subsequent genocides in Cambodia, Rwanda, Bosnia, Darfur and many other places and to remember the survivors and those scarred by their experiences; to pray that evil, prejudice and ignorance be replaced by love, tolerance and understanding.

God of love, on this day we pray for the victims of the Holocaust
and of genocides in other parts of the world.
Send your light on all who lost loved ones and help us hear the words of survivors.
We pray that our world will resist evil and intolerance,
so that we can all live together in peace and prosperity
May we be the light in the darkness. Amen

Never shall I forget that night, the first night in camp, that turned my life into one long night seven times sealed.
Never shall I forget that smoke.
Never shall I forget the small faces of the children whose bodies I saw transformed into smoke under a silent sky.
Never shall I forget those flames that consumed my faith for ever.
Never shall I forget the nocturnal silence that deprived me for all eternity of the desire to live.
Never shall I forget those moments that murdered my God and my soul and turned my dreams to ashes.
Never shall I forget those things, even were I condemned to live
as long as God Himself.
