St Michael and All Angels – 29 September 2021

The Feast of St Michael and All Angels

Everlasting God, you have ordained and constituted
the ministries of angels and mortals in a wonderful order:
grant that as your holy angels always serve you in heaven,
so, at your command,
they may help and defend us on earth;
through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord,
who is alive and reigns with you,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever. Amen.

There are three archangels mentioned in the Bible by name.
Michael is known for fighting Satan and casting him out [Rev 12. 7 – 12].
His name means “Who is like God?”.

On this day two other archangels are also remembered.
Gabriel (God is my strength) appeared to Mary at the annunciation
to tell her that she was going to have a son and that she should call him Jesus
[Luke 1. 46 – 55].
Raphael (God has healed) is known for being a healer.
He instructs Tobias to apply fish gall to his father Tobit’s blind eyes
and Tobit regains his sight [Tobit 11. 1 – 15].
